A fun day out

Plans are steaming ahead now for this year’s #10thRallySpecial. We are thrilled with the response we have had and hope this will be the best yet.

As it’s our 10th Rally we have arranged 10 Showman’s Engines to join us. Pride of place in the line-up will be the impressive 1905 Fowler 10318 Showman’s Road Locamotive, ‘Sunny Boy’ – an engine that has never been rallied as a full showman’s since complete renovation back in 1984. Owned by the Baldwin family, 'Sunny Boy' is likely to return to it’s home at The Commercial Vehicle Museum following their roof restorations – so this maybe the only opportunity to witness ‘Sunny Boy’ in steam. More info will follow very soon on the other 9 engines.

Sunday 29th April would have been Fred Dibnah’s 80th Birthday and we are honoured to be hosting a special display by the Dibnah family to celebrate. Throughout the weekend Fred’s three daughters Lorna, Caroline and Jayne will be displaying two of Fred’s iconic Land Rovers, whilst Jack and Roger Dibnah will be displaying Fred’s Aveling & Porter Steam Roller ‘Betsy’ together with Fred’s iconic Living Van. #freddibnah

We are delighted to be welcoming the amazing Mr Alexander’s Traveling Show (thanks to our very generous sponsors Brysdales and Railex). Mr Alexander will perform his Victorian variety show of magic, juggling, unicycling, balance and illusion throughout the weekend - don’t miss his three chair balancing act. We can’t wait. The fabulous Wigan Ukulele Club will once again be adding to the great atmosphere in Aunt Nelly’s Tearoom. We are very grateful for their continued support. This year we are also pleased to be welcoming Chonkinfeckle – a folk duo from Wigan who will be playing Ukulele, Harmonica, Drums and Tub Bass in the beer tent on the Sunday, thank you guys. #wiganukuleleclub #chonkinfeckle

The late and much missed William Hunter was one of the founding organisers of our rally. We are proud to once again be displaying the full William Hunter Museum Collection of his pristine commercial vehicles. Our now famous Aunt Nelly’s Victorian Tea Room is dedicated to William's memory after it was his vision of wanting somewhere in keeping to go for a proper cup of tea. Next to the tearoom you will also find an array of fresh produce and plants donated by local growers for sale at very discounted prices. All proceeds from Aunt Nelly’s tearoom and produce shop go into the rally total, with all proceeds from the rally donated to local charities - £305,261.00 to date. Thank you everyone for helping us achieve this. #williamhuntercollection #commercialvehicles #victoriantearoom #auntnellys

Back by popular demand will be our Children’s Sand Pit (thanks to our generous sponsors Alty’s Building Supplies). Weather dependant, the sand pit will be located near the Children’s Vintage Fairground and the Bar Marquee. We look forward to seeing your photos. #SteamSandPit

We will also have a very special bear with us throughout the weekend who’s rather partial to marmalade sandwiches! Keep your eyes peeled for him and say hello or pose for a picture. #marmaladesandwiches

If you're a retailer, weekend entrepreneur, master craftsperson or looking to promote a product or service and would like to be part of our 10th Rally Special with a Trade Pitch then we have limited availability remaining. Download an application form from our Contact page.
